Q. What
is The SMOKESTOPPER?
A. The
SMOKESTOPPER has been developed by firefighters
and fire prevention contractors to inhibit smoke
from entering your room in the event of a fire. Just
as important, it also easily alerts and expedites
the rescue effort in your home by the fire
department.
Q. I already have fire
extinguishers, smoke detectors and a sprinkler
system in my home. Why do I still need The
SMOKESTOPPER?
A. The
SMOKESTOPPER is just another tool in your fire
prevention and fire safety arsenal. Here are a few
reasons why you should have The
SMOKESTOPPER in your home along with smoke
detectors. Although 90% of all residences have smoke
alarms today, no smoke alarms were present in 42% of
residential structure fires where fatalities
occurred. Smoke alarms were present in 58% of fatal
residential structure fires, but only operational in
37% of those fatal fires. That means that most often
where smoke alarms are present in a fatal fire, the
smoke alarm is nonfunctional due to dead or missing
batteries. What is imperative at the moment is for
families to understand the need not to rely solely
on smoke alarms and automatic sprinklers as the
entire answer to escaping from fire. Smoke alarms
and automatic sprinklers do save lives but just as
The SMOKESTOPPER, they are just tools
in the home escape process.
Q. Why do firefighters say
this product is so critical for their rescue
efforts?
A.
The
SMOKESTOPPER easily identifies the rooms where
people will be. The highly reflective coating on
The SMOKESTOPPER will save critical time
for firefighters who will not mistakenly go into
other rooms such as closets, bathrooms, etc where
people will not likely be.
Q. How does The SMOKESTOPPER
inhibit smoke if smoke rises and The SMOKESTOPPER is
installed at the bottom of the door?
A. "Thermal
Balance" is the technical term when smoke and
superheated gases rise, leaving a few inches of
clear air between the floor and the bottom of the
smoke line. This phenomenon occurs when there is no
interference in the air or there is no smoke
movement. When there is an introduction of a foreign
mass into the area, such as people moving or a
picture falling, it causes a “Thermal Imbalance”
which will move the smoke and superheated gases to
the floor. The SMOKESTOPPER inhibits
this smoke from entering the room under the door
while also identifying a room that otherwise may be
obstructed by the smoke. Also, even the oxygen
escaping from a clear room under the door into a
fire will cause the fire to be fueled by the oxygen.
The SMOKESTOPPER inhibits this oxygen
from fueling the fire.
Q. How easy is this to
install?
A. The
SMOKESTOPPER is very simple to install with just
a few easy screws.
Q. Is The SMOKESTOPPER
interchangeable from door to door and room to room?
A. Yes. If you are
changing interior doors or rooms, you may simply
move The SMOKESTOPPER from door to
door with ease.
Q.
Will The SMOKESTOPPER work on all floor finishes?
A. Absolutely! The
SMOKESTOPPER is ideal for all floor finishes
including all types of carpet, tile, hardwood,
linoleum and all other floor coverings.
Q. Won’t this product burn in
a fire? A.
No.
The SMOKESTOPPER is made of a
self-extinguishing flexible PVC.
Q. Is The SMOKESTOPPER
affordable?
A.
Yes. Only $19.99. You cannot put a price tag on life
safety.
Q. I have a
room identifying sticker on my son’s bedroom window
for the fire department to quickly make a rescue.
Why do I need The SMOKESTOPPER?
A. While these stickers
served a good purpose when they were first released
over 30 years ago, they have become obsolete as
people move or change rooms and leave the stickers.
In recent years they have even become a detriment to
rescue efforts by falsely indicating a child's
whereabouts.
Q. How
can we get in touch with you or get additional
information?
A.
Contact Us and send us an
email. We’ll be sure to send you a prompt response.
Q. What doors should The
SMOKESTOPPER be installed on?
A. All interior
doors where loved ones reside are optimum. In the
tragic event a fire occurs in your home, The
SMOKESTOPPER will quickly alert the fire
department onsite of your whereabouts and, at the
same time, inhibit smoke from entering your room.
Q. Who needs The
SMOKESTOPPER?
A. Everyone! The
SMOKESTOPPER is highly recommended for both you
and your loved ones; but especially important are
senior citizens or children who may not be able to
escape.
